At North Texas Avionics, we specialize in the
repair of older, panel-mount transponders, such as the KING
KT-76/78 and KT-76A/78A/76C series, NARCO AT-50/50A/150
series, COLLINS TDR-950, CESSNA RT-359A/459A/859A
and many others.
Most
shops refuse to work on older transponders and would rather
you buy a new transponder from them. It has been our experience
that many transponders can be brought back to life with a simple
realignment to factory settings.
If you are not sure your transponder is working correctly, we
offer flat-rate repair services that won't break the bank.
- For
$49 - We carefully inspect
and bench test your transponder for proper operation and
advise you of its condition. Initial testing is usually
performed the same day it is received and you will be advised
of its condition via email or phone.
- For
$85 - If your transponder
has a problem and requires parts or repairs, we will provide
you with a firm estimate and you can decide whether or not
to have it repaired. Most repairs are $225
or less. If you decide to have it repaired, the repair
estimate fee is waived. In some situations, we will buy
your inoperative core.
- For
$125 - Assuming no repairs
are required, we
issue a Yellow Tag or 8130-3 Airworthiness Approval
Certificate . Transponders are tested to FAR 43, Appendix
F, specifications and our service satisfies the 24 month
inspection requirements of 91.413(a).
- For
$225 - In addition to the above,
we completely realign your transponder to manufacturer's
specifications. As internal components age, their values
change and cause the transponder to slowly drift out of
tolerance. Many transponder problems we see are solved when
the transmitter and receiver circuits are realigned.

Encoder
and/or altimeter problems? We can test and calibrate your altitude
reporting equipment while evaluating your transponder. Contact
us for more information and pricing.
Before you send your transponder to any repair facility, make
sure they are an FAA-certified Repair Station using calibrated
test equipment. Only an approved repair station can issue an
FAA form 8130-3 Airworthiness Approval Certificate.
